Say goodbye to summer in a healthy way
Summer colds are the worst. Most of us have had them, but there are things you can do to start the cooler months without any problems. If you live with children who are back in the community (kindergarten, school), you have an even greater chance that they will pick up some germs and infect the whole family. We share with you some tips to prevent unpleasant autumn illnesses.
1. Keep your immune system in top shape!
Eat foods that are high in antioxidants. Examples include dark chocolate, spinach, kale, broccoli, berries. Don’t forget to use the Wellness Triangle every day, which supports the proper functioning of the immune system.
Kyäni Sunrise is easy to incorporate into your daily menu. Mix it into a delicious, fruity smoothie that everyone in the family will enjoy.
2. Develop healthy habits to prevent illness
We tend to forget that germs are everywhere, which is why it’s so important to develop healthy habits. Always wash your hands thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds each time, especially after using the restroom or before eating.
Every summer, there are a lot of group events (beaches, fairs, festivals, etc.), so we are much more exposed to germs. According to several studies, we touch our face, mouth, eyes, or nose at least 16 times per hour, so washing your hands is very important even when we are outdoors! If there is no bathroom nearby, keep a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content with you, and try to touch your eyes and mouth as little as possible.
3. Get enough sleep
Since sleep is essential for a healthy immune system, try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every day. An alarm clock is not only good for waking you up on time in the morning, but also for letting you know in the evening that it’s time to go to bed!
4. Set your air conditioning to a reasonable temperature
According to Ronald Eccles, director of the Common Cold Centre at the University of Wales, people become more vulnerable to illness when they go from a hot summer day into a very cold, air-conditioned room. This is because the cold air inside constricts the blood vessels in the nose and throat, which reduces immunity. So if it’s too cold due to the air conditioning, it’s worth turning it down a bit or turning it up a bit!
5. Move your body!
Exercising is good for your body in many ways. Research shows that regular exercise can help boost your immune system. Even a short 30-minute walk can have a positive effect on you. Exercise can also help reduce stress hormones in your body, which can also have a negative effect on your immune system.
Whether you’re getting ready for a summer vacation, going back to school, or just trying to avoid catching a summer cold, it’s worth incorporating these tips into your daily routine to make the most of the last days of summer!
